GILBERT, Ariz. - Messiah completed an unbeaten regular season and will now go for a repeat national title as the No. 1 team in the final ranking of the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Coaches Poll on Tuesday.
The Falcons held the No. 1 ranking from start to finish this season, completing a 19-0 campaign and carrying a 41-game winning streak into the 2017 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship. Messiah captured 709 points and 32 first-place votes in the final poll.
Joining Messiah in the top five were No. 2 Middlebury, No. 3 The College of New Jersey, No. 4 Christopher Newport and No. 5 Babson. The rest of the top ten included No. 6 Salisbury, No. 7 MIT, No. 8 Kean, No. 9 Montclair State and No. 10 Franklin & Marshall.
The poll continued with No. 11 Trinity, No. 12 Williams, No. 13 Tufts, No. 14 Rochester, No. 15 Catholic, No. 16 Cortland, No. 17 Bowdoin, No. 18 Amherst, No. 19 University of New England and No. 20 Hamilton.

The 2017 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship begins on Wednesday with eight first-round games, with the second round and quarterfinals set for this weekend. The semifinals will be held at Bellarmine University on Nov. 17, with the national championship at the University of Louisville on Nov. 19. The top 11 teams and 14 overall from the final rankings were selected to the 24-team Division III field.
