East Stroudsburg Moves to No. 1 in Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II Coaches Poll

Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II Coaches Poll - Sept. 12

CHANDLER, Ariz. - After winning a showdown of the top two teams from the preseason poll, East Stroudsburg moved to the No. 1 ranking on Tuesday in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Coaches Poll.

The Warriors defeated preseason No. 1 and defending national champion Shippensburg by a 2-0 final on Wednesday as part of a 4-0 start. East Stroudsburg captured 216 points and 19 first-place votes to grab the No. 1 ranking. Millersville slid up one spot to No. 2, while Shippensburg dropped two places to No. 3. West Chester moved up three places to give teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) the top four spots in the poll, while Saint Anselm came in at No. 5.

Squads from the PSAC ended up taking six of the top seven spots in the ranking, with No. 6 Bloomsburg and No. 7 Kutztown completing that group. Kutztown entered the rankings this week. The rest of the top 10 featured No. 8 LIU Post, No. 9 Merrimack and No. 10 Stonehill.

The six PSAC teams in the top seven all face matchups against one of the other highly-ranked squads on Tuesday afternoon. No. 1 East Stroudsburg hosts No. 7 Kutztown, No. 2 Millersville goes to No. 3 Shippensburg and No. 4 West Chester welcomes No. 6 Bloomsburg. No. 10 Stonehill goes to No. 9 Merrimack on Wednesday, while top-ranked East Stroudsburg heads to No. 8 LIU Post on Thursday.

The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, September 19. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches, and has no bearing on selection to the 2017 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship.
