GILBERT, Ariz. - With just one weekend remaining in the regular season, the top of the rankings in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Coaches Poll tightened on Tuesday with Shippensburg narrowly holding on to the No. 1 spot.
The top eight slots in the poll remained unchanged from last week, but the first four positions were very closely bunched. Shippensburg led all teams with 186 points, taking the No. 1 ranking with four first-place votes. East Stroudsburg was right behind at No. 2 with 183 points and eight first-place votes, while Millersville followed at No. 3 with 168 points and six first-place selections. Saint Anselm held the No. 4 spot with 151 points and three first-place votes.
Maintaining their rankings from last week were No. 5 LIU Post, No. 6 Stonehill, No. 7 West Chester and No. 8 Pace, which shared its ranking with a new entrant this week, Kutztown. Lindenwood also cracked the poll this week at No. 10.

Each of the top-six teams in the poll will face a ranked opponent this week, with three of those contests coming in the middle of the week. No. 4 Saint Anselm is at No. 6 Stonehill on Tuesday, while Wednesday's schedule features No. 1 Shippensburg at No. 3 Millersville and No. 2 East Stroudsburg at No. 8 Kutztown. No. 6 Stonehill goes to No. 5 LIU Post on Saturday.
The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, October 31. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches, and has no bearing on selection to the 2017 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship.
