Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Weekly Award Winners Announced

GILBERT, Ariz. - Merrimack senior forward Rylie Hammond and Pace senior goalkeeper Lesly Sanchez Alvarez have been selected as the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II weekly award winners for competition from Oct. 2-8, it was announced on Wednesday.

Honorable mention status went to Shippensburg junior goalkeeper Ally Mooney and Limestone senior goalkeeper Tabria Cochran.

Offensive Player of the Week

Rylie Hammond, Merrimack Sr., F, Phillipston, Mass./Narragansett Regional

Hammond totaled seven goals and an assist to lead Merrimack to a pair of wins last week. She notched a hat trick to bring her team from behind in a 4-2 victory over then-No. 3 Saint Anselm on Wednesday. After falling behind 2-0 early, Hammond scored three straight goals for Merrimack, capped by the eventual game-winner in the 37th minute. She followed that performance with four goals and an assist in a 12-1 win against Southern Connecticut on Saturday.

Defensive Player of the Week

Lesly Sanchez Alvarez, Pace Sr., GK, Stamford, Conn./Stamford

Sanchez Alvarez made 11 saves to lead Pace to a 2-1 win over then-No. 4 LIU Post last Tuesday. Pace was able to pull out the win despite being outshot 17-5 and facing 16 penalty corners in the contest. Sanchez Alvarez followed up the performance with six saves in a 3-0 shutout of Bentley on Saturday.

Honorable Mention

Ally Mooney, Shippensburg Jr., GK, Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts

Mooney totaled 12 saves with just three goals allowed as top-ranked Shippensburg beat a pair of ranked opponents on the road last week.

Tabria Cochran, Limestone Sr., GK, Stafford, Va./North Stafford

Cochran led Limestone to a pair of wins last week, including a shutout of Converse and a 12-save effort in a 2-1 victory in strokes against Bellarmine on Friday.
