GILBERT, Ariz. - East Stroudsburg took over the No. 1 ranking in the final Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Coaches Poll on Tuesday as six teams prepare for the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship starting this weekend.
The rankings reflect what could be a very competitive postseason tournament as East Stroudsburg narrowly took home the top spot. The Warriors claimed 137 points and five first-place votes to come in ahead of LIU Post with 120 points and three first-place votes. Each of the top-five squads in the poll had at least two first-place votes. No. 3 Shippensburg had 118 points and three first-place votes, No. 4 West Chester captured 102 points and two first-place votes and No. 5 Saint Anselm totaled 100 points and two first-place votes.
The rest of the poll consisted of No. 6 Millersville, No. 7 Stonehill, No. 8 Lindenwood, No. 9 Bloomsburg and No. 10 Pace.
The 2017 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship begins with the first round this weekend as Millersville heads to Saint Anselm and Stonehill goes to Shippensburg. The Millersville/Saint Anselm winner will face LIU Post and the Stonehill/Shippensburg winner will play East Stroudsburg in the semifinals at Bellarmine University on Nov. 17. The Division II National Championship will be held at the University of Louisville on Nov. 19.
